This week we read the last two Torah portions in the book of Exodus. As we are sitting in synagogue listening to the reader chant the final notes of this section in the Torah, we should pause for a moment to briefly review in our minds the events and escapades which the Children of Israel have just experienced. When we first opened the pages of the book of Exodus, we were introduced to Moses, his mission to Pharaoh, and the ten plagues which inflicted Egypt. As the weeks progressed, we read of the actual exodus and Hashems miraculous splitting of the Red Sea. The Jews then proceeded to Mt. Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments, where we learned of the devastating sin of the golden calf. Finally, we listened to the detailed instruction of how to build the Tabernacle.

At the conclusion of every book of the Torah, the congregation rises and says three chilling words: "Chazak, chazak, vnitchazek Be strong, be strong, and let us strengthen one another." That phrase is a message to us all. For the past eleven weeks we have read the stories of this book. We have learned of the countless trials and tribulations that our ancestors went through. Let us take these lessons that we have learned and incorporate them in our own lives. Let us take these lessons and carry on. Be strong!
